A question about lag
Over the past few weeks since Wintersday, I've been experiencing an intolerable amount of lag, so much so I'm not really able to play the game anymore. Before Wintersday, I never had any problem at all with lag except for the few spurts here and there that were explainable.
Over the past few weeks the only thing I've changed on my end was putting in a better 3D card, which has in fact helped the game play much smoother when I don't have lag. So, my question is thus: Do I need to report it somehow? If it's an error on Anets side, if that's possible, then they would need to know to track it down, wouldn't they? Otherwise I'll just continue playing in 15 minute increments. |

did your internet connection speed change? I have cable internet and as hard as it is to believe. During a lightning storm one night it hit the box(that is like 4 feet from my house) that had some device(that I don't know the name of) in it. This brought the little cable internet cord that gave me a reason to live into my house T_T. For atleast 2 months we didn't know what was slowing down the connection. Finally we called them(comcast). They came out ran a few tests and in 5 mins it was fixed.

Maybe you need to defrag your hard drive? I also saw somewhere about defragging the .dat file. Not sure how you do that tho.

Yeah, I actually did follow that guide to defragging my .dat file, and it was very helpful. It does make the game play a little bit smoother, but not by much. About every 5-10 minutes I still get times where I'll be in the middle of a fight or otherwise playing and then the game will just freeze. For instace, all the characters will just be standing there doing nothing for about 40 seconds, then I'll come back with 1/4th my starting health and my Hero's and Henchmen will have been wiped out by enemies or vice versa.
Aside from GW, all my internet stuff is operating just as it normally has. Downloads, websites, even other games are operating normally. The thing that makes me wonder is that for these past few weeks I was able to play games like CoD4 over my connection just fine, but since the Wintersday festival it's just been really bad in GW. So on that note I'm not sure it would be an issue with the ISP, but possibly just normal lag for the GW servers. If that's the case, should I report it to them so they know to look for something that might be affecting people in my area other than me, or just keep trying to ignore it? Normally I don't really mind the lag, but it just seems like this has been going on for a while. |
